The term meditation is widely used, but its meaning can vary significantly. Are we talking about focusing attention and gaining insights, or do we mean concentrating or experiencing a calm mind? Buddhist terminology complicates things further with concepts like mindfulness, samadhi, vipassana, recollections, and brahmaviharas.
Amidst this diversity and the wealth of literature and guidance, we may feel confused. We might also struggle with our own meditation practice, feeling uncertain about doing it correctly.
The Buddha described 'bhavana' as the cultivation and 'samadhi' as the unification of the heart-mind (citta), considering them not only essential but also profoundly beneficial, nourishing, and supportive. In this course, we aim to explore the different facets of meditation and gain insights for our personal practice that we can apply.
